CHEMICAL HANDLING
The Port of Haifa has specialized facilities for the handling and storage of chemicals at its Northern and Southern Terminals.
Northern Chemical Terminal
Is located on the northern side of the Kishon Zone on land especially chosen for this purpose due to its distance from populated areas and its proximity to the local chemical industries. Three tankers can be handled concurrently at the terminal where water depth at the quay ranges from 4.5 meters to 8.5 meters.
Terminal Facilities
A dedicated underground piping system for the direct delivery of substances such as G.P.M., methanol, MTBE, and aromatic chemicals to area plants.
Facilities and systems for ammonia and ethylene storage.
The terminal and docks are protected by a computer-operated firefighting system.
Various auxiliary services provide nitrogen for operations, drinking water supply, compressed air, public address systems, firefighting equipment, and weigh bridge.
The terminal has specialized personnel available at all times who are trained and equipped with firefighting equipment and able to respond immediately in case of fire of hazardous materials.
Southern Chemical Terminal
The terminal is located at the end of the general cargo quay in the Kishon Zone. The terminal includes about 70 storage tanks for materials having a flash point above 300C. The tanks are connected by pipeline to a berth which can serve one ship. The Southern Terminal is operated by Gadot Terminals Ltd.
